| Former receiver Plaxico Burress denied work release from prison (SportingNews.com) Plaxico Burress will need to put his plans of a return to the NFL on hold. The former Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants wide receiver learned Tuesday that his request for work release from a New York prison had been denied. Burress, 33, is serving a two-year sentence after pleading guilty in 2009 to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. In November 2008, Burress accidentally shot himself in his right leg with his unlicensed .40-caliber handgun in a New York City nightclub.
